Spruce Up For Spring!

Hello, my beautiful design loves!! I'm sorry if you missed me last week- I was feeling pretty under the weather, but I am happy to say I am back and feeling fine! My very good and sweet friend had a great suggestion for this week... I loved it and so this week I want to share some how-to's on decorating for spring! A new season is the perfect time to give your home a makeover, so try out some of these fresh ideas and let me know how much you love the new colors and ideas in your home! Enjoy! ...db

Kitchen: A little color can go a long way, especially in unexpected places. Try a new mosaic-inspired tile design with bright colors and bring some fun back into your kitchen! Want to go really bold? Why not paint your cabinets a bright spring color? Pops of color are trending right now... A lime cabinet is unexpected yet stunning and is sure to make you smile every time you walk in!

Garden: Don't leave the outdoors out of your decorating! Plant some brightly colored plants in beautiful planters outside your front door- the warm colors will greet you as you come home, making the best part of your day even better! I love the deep purple mixed with the bright pops of green and pink, and look at that planter! Such fun beachy colors- perfect for the warmer weather!

Accessories: One of the easiest ways to welcome spring into your home is through accessorizing... Find some brightly colored pillows to bring in color, liven up antiques by painting them a great hue, and don't forget your floors! Rugs add so much character to a room, and a fun and colored rug can do a lot to bring your home out of winter! All three of these images show how a little color goes a long way in a home... Why not make them a part of your new essential items for spring?

Storage: And finally, remember spring cleaning! Have an old closet that doesn't get used the way it ought to? Why not clear it out and make room for your sewing hobby? Organize it, put shelves in, and you're ready to go! Keeping it organized ensures that you'll be able to find exactly what you're looking for! I love how this person turned her closet into a space that she will really use all the time... And how can you not smile at how charming this little space has become? Revamping unused spaces in your home is a great way to revitalize your home and add character to an area that might otherwise get overlooked!

Mantel Decorating 101

Hello design loves and welcome to March!!! This past weekend I got a request to do a blogpost about how to decorate mantels, so I am very excited to share some advice and tips with y'all... The thing I love about mantels is that they are a great way to showcase your style and personality in your home. The accessories that you choose for your mantel should tie in with the rest of the decor of your home, but also feel free to take a little risk!

Is there a funky mini-sculpture you've been dying to have? Tie it in with a vase full of dried branches, a great mirror and you're all set! If your style is more traditional then maybe you prefer to have a large work of art above the mantle... Try finding some books (small ones!) that you can work into the layout. Finish the look off with tall candlesticks and you're ready to show it off!

A couple things to keep in mind no matter your style- simple designs always looks better so don't overcrowd your mantel. Find a few things that you love (no more than six pieces!) and stick with those. If you find new items you want to use as decor, take something else down. Less is always more! Another big hint? Asymmetrical design! This means that the two ends of your mantle should have different accessories on them. Think vase with flowers on one end and tall candlesticks on the other. For the best results, remember to group items in odd numbers and groups of three usually look the best!

To help out the more visual of you learners out there I have collected some images of mantels that will inspire you and hopefully help illustrate what I've said thus far. Keep these master tips in mind and soon you'll have the best mantel in the neighborhood! And as for the lady who inspired this post, thank you for such a great suggestion! iope this is what you were looking for, enjoy!!! ...db

Kitchens for Loving and Living

Hello design loves! So this past weekend I went home for my momma's birthday, and I had such a great time I really didn't want to leave- For my family, whenever we get together there is always a lot of cooking going on and we usually end up spending most of our time in the kitchen... And it got me thinking about designing that space. So this week I have a collection of some beautiful kitchens that I hope y'all love as much as I do. With their distinct colors, open designs, and copious amount of light they just might inspire your next culinary masterpiece or even become your new favorite room in the house.  Enjoy! ...db
